Welcome! Profile: SPS is a newly formed company based upon earlier applications in the 1990īs by Global Marketing & Trading that installed ship energy saving devices (ESDīs) for ship owners worldwide. Information: SPS has an operational relationship with the Marine Design & Research Institute of China (MARIC) in Shanghai to design and engineer ESDīs for ocean-going ships. Once designed, SPS has relationships with manufacturers for supply, delivery, and installation of ESD's.
ESDīs are manufactured in China under major ship classification societiesī certifications for delivery to worldwide locations. Propeller Cap Turbines (PCT) are mounted on hubs of propellers. Simplified Compensative Nozzles (SCN) are installed on the hull forward of propellers. Other unique ESDīs, such as Thrust Shaft Brackets for twin screw vessels, can be engineered to suit individual ship designs. Results: The PCT has been proven on sea-trials and a savings of 3 to 4% can be achieved on fixed pitch propellers. The SCN has been proven in service to achieve a 5 to 6 % savings. Combining the PCT and SCN would achieve up to a 10 % energy savings or alternately provide an increase in ships speed of 0.5 knots based upon a 14 knot design speed. All ESDs are simple in construction, easy to fabricate and install, require limited maintenance or repair, and are low in cost.

Goal: Ship Propulsion Solutions, LLC (SPS)
goal is to improve ship propulsion efficiency, i.e. increase speed
and/or reduce fuel consumption. Mission: Ship Propulsion Solutions (SPS) implements hydrodynamic, mechanical, and electrical equipment on ocean-going commercial-ships to improve propulsion efficiency, including approaches directed to reduce environmental impact. Deliverables:
SPS primary equipment supply is
stern-appended hydrodynamic energy saving devices which require custom
engineering design in order to maximize performance gains. Installations
require coordination with ship new building and dry docking schedules. |
